This quick and easy homemade teriyaki sauce is perfect for glazing meats, stir-frying vegetables, or drizzling over rice. Its perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors elevates any dish to new heights.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 2 tablespoons honey

  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon mirin (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch

  • 1 tablespoon water (for cornstarch slurry)

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, 1/4 cup water, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, mirin (if using), sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Stir over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture begins to simmer.

  2. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water to create a slurry. Slowly whisk the slurry into the simmering sauce.

  3. Continue to cook the sauce for 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently, until it thickens to your desired consistency.

  4. Remove from heat and allow the sauce to cool. Use immediately, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Tips:

  • For a thicker sauce, cook it a little longer after adding the cornstarch slurry.

  • If you prefer a sweeter sauce, add an extra tablespoon of honey or brown sugar.

  • This sauce can be easily doubled or tripled if you need more for larger dishes.
