Some of my favorite projects happen when I don’t plan them.
The other day, I stopped by the Mission Thrift Store in Duncan after grabbing some sushi nearby. My daughter and I love popping in, because we almost always find something fun. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular—but as soon as I walked in, their fall selection completely drew me in.
Bright autumn leaves, berries, garlands, and textures in warm oranges and reds filled the aisles. Each piece was scattered around the store, which made it feel like a little treasure hunt. Bit by bit, I picked up things that sparked my interest, and suddenly I realized: I already had a wreath frame at home. A project had found me.
The Joy of the Unexpected 🍁
This wasn’t just about saving money (though thrift finds are always budget-friendly). It was about the serendipity of discovery. Finding beauty in unexpected places. Letting the season inspire you.
The ladies working at the shop were so kind—they asked what I was planning to do with the pieces. I told them I was thinking of making a full fall wreath to decorate my front entry. They loved the idea, and I hope they’ll get to see this finished piece. It’s such a wonderful reminder of the community and creativity that thrifting brings.
Creating the Wreath
Back at home, I spread everything out: faux leaves, berries, and sparkly accents. Then came the fun part—assembling them into something new.
Crafting like this always feels grounding to me. It’s not just about making something pretty—it’s about slowing down, being present, and letting my hands (and imagination) guide the process.
Piece by piece, the wreath came together, transforming thrifted odds and ends into a cozy fall décor piece.
The Finished Look
When I hung the wreath on my wall, it instantly brought warmth to the space. A splash of autumn color. A touch of seasonal magic.
It wasn’t just décor—it was a reminder that creativity doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, all you need is a bit of curiosity, a few thrifted treasures, and the willingness to make something new from something old.
Why I Love Thrifting & Creating 🌎💚
This little project checked all the boxes for me:
Budget-friendly → Everything came together for a fraction of what a store-bought wreath would cost.
Sustainable → Reusing and repurposing keeps beautiful materials out of the landfill.
Meaningful → Every piece had a story—from the store aisles to the kindness of the staff to the shared adventure with my daughter.
This wreath wasn’t just about decorating—it was about creativity, connection, and cherishing the unexpected.
If you haven’t visited your local thrift store lately, maybe now’s the time. Who knows what little treasures—and sparks of inspiration—you’ll find waiting there.
