Mid-Summer Reflections: The Journey So Far with the Seaside Magnolia Summer Drop

We’ve officially hit the halfway point of summer, and with eight handmade drops placed across Vancouver Island, I wanted to take a moment to pause, reflect, and share a bit more about why this project began — and what it’s been giving back.

How It Started

The Seaside Magnolia Summer Drop began as a simple idea: to challenge myself to create a new pair of earrings each week, hide them somewhere in the community, and offer them as a free gift to whoever found them. No catch. No expectations. Just a handmade moment of connection.

But underneath that was something deeper — a desire to show up more fully in my work, to push past perfectionism, and to invite more creative play into what I do.

How It’s Going

So far, I’ve left drops in:

  1. Crofton

  2. Duncan (twice!)

  3. Chemainus

  4. Ladysmith

  5. Nanaimo (bonus)

  6. Lake Cowichan

  7. Salt Spring Island (bonus)

Only two have been confirmed found — and that’s part of the beauty too. It’s not about the outcome; it’s about the intention. About putting something kind and beautiful into the world and letting go of where it lands.

What It’s Taught Me

This project has gently (and sometimes not so gently) pulled me outside my comfort zone. It’s encouraged me to:

  • Show up more regularly and authentically online

  • Share my designs without overthinking

  • Let my creativity lead, without waiting for everything to be perfect

  • Be okay with not knowing how something will be received

  • Trust the quiet, slow kind of growth

Honestly, it’s been healing. I feel happier, more grounded in what I’m creating, and closer to the version of my business and self I’ve been trying to step into.

Why I’m Doing This

Yes — I want to grow a brand. I want to build something that supports my family and reflects my values. I want to find the people who connect with handmade, meaningful things. And I want to build a community — one that’s creative, curious, and kind.

This project has reminded me that even in a noisy online world, connection is still possible. That quiet creativity still matters. That handmade things still hold power.

So, if you’ve found a drop, followed along, or shared kind words — thank you. I hope to keep showing up, sharing more, and growing with you.

We’re halfway through the drops… and I’m just getting started.

xo,

Natasha
